2025 - Ongoing
Project Type: Hospitality | Geography: Nepal
The currently underutilized pool area at the Hyatt Regency in Kathmandu is being revitalized with a range of new activities designed to transform it into a vibrant focal point of an urban resort. To encourage greater guest use, the space features several new additions, including spill-out from the existing All-Day Dining area, a new alfresco restaurant, and a dedicated pool bar. For more intimate experiences, a cluster of gazebos are added, offering smaller, more private gathering spots within the larger open space. This strategic expansion is designed to make the pool area a dynamic and inviting destination.
The design emphasizes a non-invasive approach by leveraging dry-construction technologies to minimize disruption. Instead of major demolition, the new structures are being built using decking and steel frames with wooden rain screens, ensuring a quick and efficient installation process. This method not only reduces construction impact but also allows for the careful placement of new landscaping and structures. The layout is thoughtfully arranged to preserve existing guest and service access, maintain optimal viewsheds for guests, and maximize natural sunlight, ensuring the area maintains its openness.
A key feature of the redesign is the creation of a tiered and varied landscape. Pavilion-like structures will be dispersed across the main area, breaking up the large space into a series of smaller, more intimate settings. In addition, a series of terraces are introduced, creating an amphitheater-like arrangement where different activities can be staged. These terraces will provide excellent views of the pool, creating a natural focal point for the space and offering guests a dynamic and engaging environment to relax and socialize.
